Info about Vino
Vino
One of the oldest drinks in the world and probably the most known is wine. The history of wine goes way back and it has been mentioned in many books and even in the bible. The countries that are producing the biggest quantities of wine in the world are: France, Italy, Spain, etc.
In these countries the word for wine is “vino” for Italy and Spain and for France “vin”. The word in Spanish and in Italian is considered to be very romantic and to charismatic for the product and it is very often used on English labels.
We know very well that the France wine is renowned all over the world and it rarely needs presentation, so let’s see some information about the Spanish and Italian wine, or “vino” as they call this drink that is not missing from the houses of these countries.
The region with the most quality wine in Spain is Castile – La Mancha, Navarra, the Rioja, Penedes region in Catalonia and others that are given the title “Denominacion de Origen de Pago” also known as DO de Pago.
Spain has the largest area of land that is used for viticulture. Annually there is approximately 1, 2 million hectares that are used in this purpose. Even though the area is the largest, the production is the third in the world after France and Italy. The Spanish “vino” is very well known in Europe but also in USA and among the best are:
When we talk about wine we can say that Italy knows everything because they are the world’s first producers, even if it was the Greeks that started producing it in the region. Italians were also those that have perfected the technique for producing the wine and they were the first to bottle the wine and to put it I barrels.
Today, Italians are the people that drink the highest quantity of wine in a year and in 2008 they have produced more wine than France, which means that they were the first producer of wine. From almost 800 varieties of wines that are grown in Italy more than 350 varieties are recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Italy which shows just how important wine is for this country. The most important regions in Italy for vineyards are: Piedmont, Val d’Aosta, Lombardy, Liguria, Veneto, Trentino, Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo, Apulia, and Sardinia, Calabria. Out of these regions, I believe there isn’t anybody that hasn’t heard about Tuscany and the wine of Tuscany, like Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or Chianti.
If we need to talk seriously about “vino” from Italy or Spain we can consider writing a book, because there are a lot to say about the history, which is not short and for sure it is not insignificant, about the many varieties of wine, about the beautiful regions where vineyards are and about people that love their wine and are proud of it ; people that have made of wine production a science, art and a culture.
